About the role
Block Labs is hiring an Applied AI Engineer to join its Intelligence team, building production AI agents, machine learning models, and data science systems on a governed decision platform. The first deliverable is a Slack-native SQL BI analyst agent that answers business questions with validated queries and cited evidence. From there, the role spans four crafts: AI agents, machine learning, data science, and dashboards.
You will build customer-facing agents with retrieval-grounded responses, multi-turn state machines, and escalation logic, plus a risk-stratified tool layer between agents and back-office APIs. On the ML side, you will productionise churn, lifetime value, risk scoring, and anomaly detection models served across real-time, near-real-time, and batch tiers. You will also own withdrawal risk scoring, codify business rules with domain owners, and ship supervisor and approval surfaces for your agents.
