About the role
Amazon is hiring a Senior Applied Scientist for its Alexa AI team, based in Italy. The role centres on defining and driving the science roadmap for conversational AI systems powered by large language models, directly shaping how millions of customers interact with Alexa. You will lead work on LLM fine-tuning, alignment methods such as RLHF, DPO and RLVR, distillation, and agentic architectures that must operate reliably at scale across many languages and devices.
The position spans the full machine learning lifecycle, from research formulation through experimentation to production deployment. You will develop evaluation frameworks, build automated training pipelines, and collaborate with engineering, product, and science teams across Amazon. There is scope to publish at top-tier conferences, generate intellectual property, and mentor junior scientists. The role is classified at CBA Telecommunication Sector level 7 or above, with a minimum.
