About the role
Applied Materials is hiring a Data Scientist to improve semiconductor manufacturing operations through data analysis, predictive modeling, optimization, simulation and experimentation. The role works with large manufacturing and simulation datasets to identify bottlenecks, forecast outcomes and develop decision support solutions. It involves customer projects as well as internal innovation, with collaboration across customers, domain experts and engineering teams.
Responsibilities include building and validating models, analyzing discrete event simulation outputs, designing experiments and communicating recommendations to technical and nontechnical audiences. Candidates need a strong foundation in statistics and mathematics, predictive modeling experience and strong Python skills, including tools such as Pandas, Polars, NumPy and Scikit-learn. Experience in operations research, manufacturing systems or MLOps is preferred. The role is advertised across several European hubs, including Milan, and includes up to 20% travel.
Highlights
- Apply data science and optimization to semiconductor manufacturing challenges.
- Work across statistical modeling, simulation and experimentation.
- Use Python and common data analysis and machine learning libraries.
- European hub locations include Milan; travel is listed at 20%.
