About the role
Proton is hiring a Senior Data Engineer to own its Data Layer, the unified foundation behind its AI operating system for wholesale distribution. You will take end-to-end responsibility for ingestion from file, event, and API sources, the medallion-style model from raw through refined to curated, and the serving layer that powers both the product and the company's AI brain. The role is explicitly hands-on: building and operating transformation pipelines on a modern orchestration framework and cloud warehouse, reconciling large messy datasets, and defining the data contracts other teams build against.
What sets this apart is the AI-native expectation. Every engineer uses Claude Code and similar agentic tools as first-class collaborators, so you are expected to scope work, structure context, run agents in parallel, and validate their output rather.
Highlights
- Europe remote with required daytime overlap with the Boston team
- Ownership of ingestion, medallion modeling, and the serving layer
- Daily hands-on use of agentic coding tools expected, not optional
- 7+ years of production data engineering ownership required
- ERP and ecommerce source integration experience is a plus
